You can gauge your popularity pretty quickly while riding the bus to school. . . and the results can be pretty depressing.
This is an old sketch I did a few years back when I was feeling a bit left out and lonely. Sometimes it's good to draw out those emotions :).
Sorry I haven't posted anything more finished recently. . .work is breathing down my neck, but I'm looking forward to doing more finished Illustration Friday pieces in March.
Until then. . Happy February!
Oh dear... that's an awful feeling?! Much rather be sitting or standing alone on a bus anyway! :)
ReplyDeleteas an adult for sure! but it must have been torture as a kid sitting alone on a school bus. . .I'm so grateful that I was able to get a ride to school instead :)
DeleteI think everyone feels out of place at some time or the other, so the truth is, you're not really alone even when you feel like you are.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great way of looking at things Cynthia! Hope you're doing well!
DeleteThis sketch is simple yet so powerful, I can really feel for the girl in the illustration. I love your style by the way.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Christine! I like your style too :). Is that watercolor that you use in your illustrations?

ReplyDeleteI hated that feeling on the bus. It was a reminder of how too many jerks live where I am from.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really lovely sketch, with a great balance of black and white. And very expressive too. I was not a popular kid myself, so I know the feeling. Nicely done. (By the way, thanks for linking the Colbert-Sendak interview below! I had been meaning to watch that for ages but now I've finally seen it. Hooray!)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Cindy! Also, no problem about sharing the video. . .did you know Colbert's going to publish the Pole book lol?
